We are now seeking to disseminate our preliminary findings and engage key stakeholders in the Higher Education and mental health sector to review the implications for mental health delivery.

With this in mind, we are holding a free one-day conference on Tuesday 3 December 2024 at the University of Exeter.

The conference is an opportunity for stakeholders including university leadership, wellbeing teams, academics, charities, and students to meet and hear the developments made across the five workstreams of Nurture-U:

  • Initial findings of our twice-yearly Wellbeing Survey conducted across 5 universities, with over 11,000 students participating, with insights on how mental health and well-being varies across the diversity of the student body and on vulnerability and protective factors

  • The design and piloting of a digital wellbeing tool designed to help students monitor their wellbeing and navigate local university support and resources

  • Developing and testing a state-of-the-art mental health literacy course with information on managing stress, healthy lifestyle, and how to recognise and seek help for mental health difficulties.

  • Qualitative, ethnographical and anthropological research looking at barriers and facilitators to making our campuses kinder, more inclusive and more supportive – across university leadership, culture, environment, curriculum and assessment.

  • Three randomized controlled trials testing better ways to treat and prevent anxiety and depression in students including a self-help app focused on building confidence and reducing worry and an evaluation of commonly used internet CBT treatments in supported versus self-guided formats.

The day will involve brief presentations on each topic with panel forums and workshops to discuss the implications of the findings and to hear stakeholder perspectives on the implementation of the research.
